The suitcases have been buried somewhere in the basement since February. That’s the last time they were emptied, and they will continue to remain empty for the foreseeable future. Vacations give us the opportunity to change our scenery for a few days or a week from the familiar reminders of life’s stressors. When we are out of town there are no piles of bills to remind us of our debt and no roads that take us by our places of work reminding us of what deadlines lurk in the coming week. Simply being away from our home where we can’t notice the wall that needs painted or the room that needs organized provides us with a mental state that is calmer, less anxious and more relaxed. However, for many of us, the year 2020 will be the year without any vacations.
